That spooky time of year is upon us! Halloween is coming and it is so much to celebrate with your family. Spending time together decorating your house can be an exciting way to spend your time. No matter how much fun decorating for Halloween can be, it can also start getting pricey. Especially with all the exciting choices of Halloween Décor out there to choose from. So how do you deck out your haunting home without breaking the bank? Because, an empty wallet, that is REALLY terrifying.
Save Money on Halloween Décor
Shop at Discount Shops
Do your Halloween décor shopping at Dollar and Bargain stores. There are usually a wide variety of decorations for great prices. My favourite shop for all of my Halloween needs this year is Value Village. The new location just opened on Merivale Road in Ottawa and it is bright, organized and has all of my Halloween Decore essentials.
Make your own Halloween decorations with items you have laying around the house. Use white kitchen trash bags to make ghosts to hang from your trees, Pom Poms and Pipe cleaners to make spooky Spiders, or even black trash bags with cutouts to black out your windows. Last year we made these Boo Bottles, the idea (and many others) are from the Readers Digest: DIY Halloween Decorations post.
Make a Halloween Sounds Playlist
To add that extra something special to your Spooktacular décor, make a playlist of spooky sounds and play them on the night of Halloween! Cheap and very scary. Last Christmas I was gifted Apple Music for the entire family. I found some excellent spooky sounding music and sound effects for this year’s trick or treaters.
Save Decorations for Next Year
When you are ready to take down your decorations, make sure that you save what you can, to use the next year. There is no shame in displaying the same decorations year after year, and it saves you plenty of money. We purchased some storage containers last year from Canadian Tire to help keep our Halloween decorations safe and sound for the 11 months of the year we don’t use them.
Buy Décor for the Following Year
Go shopping after Halloween to stock up on bargains for next year. This can save you a bunch of money and get you a lot of quality décor for a little money. This year you can pick up some fantastic deals at Micheals before Halloween and reuse them next year! You can find the available deals here.
No matter how you decorate for Halloween, it is a great way to spend some time together getting spooky. Save some money this year and have a creepy crawly Halloween!
