Have you heard of #BlueMonday? For most people, it’s the third Monday of January and the day that some feel most miserable after the holidays – likely because the holiday cheer has long faded, we’ve possibly already broken our New Year’s Resolution and it’s just oh so cold outside!
But that is not the case for me. Today is my Blue Monday, the first Monday after school ended. I woke up with a start at 5:45 am thinking I had slept in. I panicked wondering how I would get everyone up, dressed and ready in time for everyone to arrive at school on time. Of course, I quickly realized that is was not a school day. However, all day I felt like there was an elephant sitting in the middle of my chest. I kept looking at my watching, thinking I needed to be somewhere or a bell was going to ring signaling the beginning of recess. It’s not that I don’t enjoy the summer, I love spending time with my children. It just takes me a couple of days to decompress and change my focus from a school-wide one to a family focus. Today I tried several techniques to help loosen the grip of my end of the school year Blue Monday.
Stand & Soak
I took some time to de-stress today and focused on relaxing with a long hot shower. I added tea tree oil and lavender to my shower basin and play spa-inspiring music in the background to help enter a total state of Zen. Besides the kids fighting over who had the remote control last and the kitten attempting to join me in the shower, it was exceptionally relaxing.
Give your body a boost with a healthy beverage
I have read that I can keep my immune system protected and your body energized by drinking hot lemon water in the morning for a calming start to your day. I agree, it was a different start to my day today and not having to rush off to work was a bonus. However, by 10 am I was ready for a nap so I consumed copious amounts of coffee at second breakfast and was alert the rest of the day.
Freshening Up My Smile
In the summer I have a little more sun on my face and I have long drawn out conversations on my front porch, with friends, about the state of the world. However, today I felt more like hiding under my covers. I decided to freshen up my smile with a true multi-tasking beauty product, Arm & Hammer™ Truly Radiant™ Clean & Fresh Toothpaste. I coupled that with a new Arm & Hammer™ Truly Radiant™ Clean & Fresh Battery-Powered Toothbrush for 100% more plaque removal versus a manual toothbrush, whitening, and the ultimate freshening experience! A nice bright smile made the day seem a little less blue.
Never Miss a Monday
My motto today and for the rest of the summer is to get outside, go for a walk or for a short jog. Getting in a good workout was a great way to jump-start your day and my week. By taking time for myself and focusing on my own piece of mind, body and spirit made my endorphins race and I could feel the stress and sadness of the day fade away.
Do you have any tips for beating a blue day or your own #BlueMonday? How do you turn your day around after a difficult start? I know as this week progresses the stress will decrease and I will enjoy all that the summer has to offer.
