As with any great challenge taking the first step is the hardest part for me. When the task seems too daunting, I tend to avoid it. It is easier that way! Just before the holidays I was injured and unable to walk or write. It really was a life changing injury. Life changing in that I realized how many blessings I have in my life. My kids, friends, and neighbors surrounded our family and helped us through a difficult time. The start of 2017 was the perfect time to reflect on my past and look forward to the future. Of course, the excitement of a new year is coupled with a hectic schedule including the children & I going back to school, winter sports starting and work piling up after a few weeks of being off of school. In the past, January has flown by and my New Year’s resolutions have quickly go out the window once a stressful situation appeared. This year I wanted to start the New Year off right, with healthy habits for myself & my whole family can we can all benefit from.
Here are four simple changes we have made that I hope will have a life-long impact,
1. Healthy homemade lunches: Making lunch for my family often feels like a huge chore. The kids and I complete small tasks to prep for our lunches, such as cutting up vegetables on the weekend, this will make the process quick and ensure healthy choices are made during the week. I also include little love notes to tell them I miss them & sometimes the plan for the evening.
2. Keep your hair healthy: Washing your hair too frequently can strip out natural oils and cause split ends. I’ve started washing my hair every second or third day to maintain healthy and natural looking locks. I use Batiste™ Dry Shampoo Original between washes will help to eliminate excess oil and grease, leaving hair looking clean and fresh with added body and texture. No water required! I keep a bottle in my desk drawer, one in my truck and a travel sized bottle my hockey bag because you never know when an adventure will present itself.
3. Unplug and recharge: Getting a good night sleep is difficult for me. It is actually not the falling asleep, but staying asleep is my issue. There are always new emails to be answered and a list of chores to do; however, it is important for me to understand the importance a good night’s sleep. Especially since, sleep can boost productivity, improve my memory and help maintain a healthy weight. If you are having trouble falling asleep, try Vitafusion™ SleepWell. Each SleepWell gummy is made with 2.5 g of Melatonin, a hormone that helps increase total sleep time. I am using my Sleep Tracking App to help track my most restful hours of sleep. It also tells me when to go to bed, which is an excellent way to ensure I don’t miss getting my 8 hours of sleep.
