Have you entered yet? It has been exactly 12 days since I co-hosted my first twitter party with @StarbucksCanada and we launched this amazing #NameYourBlend contest.
If you could go anywhere in Canada for a coffee where would it be and with who? Personally, I would head to Churchill Manitoba to sip a Starbucks Blonde Roast while watching the polar bears frolic in the snow with my family.
Below is the all the important information about the #NameYourBlend contest you know contest deadlines and the legal detail. However, I have the inside track to help you craft your own perfect contest entry. Candace Alper has given me her personal Tips and Tricks sheet for entering this contest. Everything you need to make your entry stand out!
Naming Expert Candace Alper’s Tips and Tricks!
1. Fill it with Meaning. When crafting a name for a coffee that so many Canadians have embraced, it needs to mean something for the country and has to tell a story. The name should resonate with Canadians in a powerful way – Feel free to look to landscapes, landmarks, moments, people and culture for inspiration!
2. Evoke a feeling. Anytime Canadians think about this coffee, sip it, smell it or see the name written, it should give them a special feeling, whether it’s pride, happiness, excitement, satisfaction or even relief.
3. Make it Memorable. This is the word millions of Canadians will be saying each morning when they order their coffee. A powerful name is one that’s easy to remember and easy to say, so it can’t be too complicated or obscure. If it’s relatable and resonates with many people, it’s bound to be a memorable one!
4. Let it Brew. Don’t rush it and think it through. Start by enjoying a cup of Blonde Veranda BlendTM and reflect on how it makes you feel. Create a list of key words, meanings and feelings as a starting point. Once you land on the one word you are looking for, give it time to grow on you.
5. Apply the K-I-S-S Rule. “Keep It Short and Sweet!” This will be the name of the most popular Starbucks blend in the country. Baristas will shout it, it will be written on menu boards, printed on packaging and featured in ads. It should look good and sound good in every context. And at the heart of keeping it simple is keeping it short and sweet – stick to 10 letters or less!

Here are all the contest details, happy reading!
Because the response to Starbucks® Blonde Roast, and in particular, Veranda BlendTM/MC has been so resoundingly positive in Canada, Starbucks is extending an honour to Canadians that is traditionally reserved for just the company’s coffee masters and master blenders: an invitation to re-name the popular Starbucks® Blonde Roast blend to recognize its success in Canada. This marks the first time globally that the brand will be launching a major re-naming and packaging re-design for one of its coffee blends based on consumer submissions and popular vote.
Starting today, through until February 10, 2013, Starbucks® Blonde Roast drinkers and coffee lovers can visit www.starbucks.ca/Blonde to review the rules and submit their entry for a new and uniquely Canadian name for Starbucks® Blonde Veranda BlendTM/MC. The winning name will be incorporated into new packaging designs that will be available in Starbucks stores.
To help kick things off, well-known Canadian coffee lover and decorated Canadian Race Car Driver
and 2003 Champ Car World Series Champion , Paul Tracy, brewed up a name of his own:
“I’ve chosen the name Canadian Formula because Starbucks® Blonde Roast IS the Canadian Formula, as it meets the taste preferences of Canadian coffee drinkers. But I also wanted to make sure that my name submission reflected my personal accomplishments being the youngest ever Canadian Formula Ford Champion.”
Starbucks Canada will shortlist three finalists and a grand prize winner will be determined by public vote from February 18-25, 2013. The winner will be awarded a trip for two to meet a friend for coffee at a Starbucks® store in Canada as well as a $500 CAD Starbucks card and $400 spending money. Runners-up will each receive coffee for a year in the form of a $1,000 in Starbucks cards.
