Our Family Netflix Picks for January and beyond!
Anne with an E: This is a story from my childhood, a series of books I read when I was 12 that made me hate and love Gilbert Blythe all in one breathe. I’m not quite sure what made me cry first, the opening credits or the Tragically Hip’s, Ahead by a Century or the sadness in Anne’s eyes as she flashed into her dark past. Miranda Cuthbert is played flawlessly by Geraldine James, she steals the scene with her powerful glare and wordless emotions. This series was something I was able to share with my 12-year-old daughter. I say “was” as we binged the entire series one snowy afternoon and cannot wait for the next season begin.
Unleashed: Despite what you might think, this new movie is not my favorite because Sean Austin stars in this film (as 14-year-old self, screams in joy). No, the reason this movie caught my eye was the coming to life of a cat and dog into the life of a lonely person. Being a family of animal lovers, this was one movie we could not pass by. Watch it, laugh, cry, you may never look at your pet the same way. This movie was exactly what my 14-year-old daughter and I enjoyed watching together.
A Series of Unfortunate Events. No, you haven’t missed something. The second season of, Lemony Snickets: A Series of Unfortunate Events is coming to Netflix Canada on March 30th, 2018. Andie, who is 12 years old, is a huge fan and cannot wait what happens next to the Baudelaire children as they embark on a new boarding school adventure. We started reading the books together when the kids were younger and since the movie has come out, Andie has started re-reading the entire series.
My husband enjoys documentaries and violent movies that I just don’t understand. However, we have found common ground with Shameless. It is absolutely not appropriate for kids. No, not even my teenage daughter. This is series that is filled with dark humor and the stark reality of the underbelly of American culture. I know this is a British original, I just haven’t watched that series yet. This series launched on January 2nd, 2018 we are waiting until the weekend to binge it together.
Beckett and I have watched Lightening McQueen over the years. As a nine-year-old boy, he still loves the series and the adventure Disney gives to the Cars movie enthusiast. We missed the opportunity to see Cars 3 in theater, however, we have a plan to cuddle up on January 31st, 2018 to watch the latest installment. We can’t wait to see where this exciting adventure will take us.
What are you looking forward to in January 2018 and beyond on Netflix Canada?
